Rhizome

Until recently, the artists forming the Rhizome Institute only occasionally passed each other in the corridors and passages between the Institute’s buildings. In the spring of 2024, they got to know each other, visited their studios, and thus the rhizome of their community emerged to the surface. Its core is the Institute of Industrial Chemistry in Warsaw’s Żoliborz district.

It is a unique space with its own memory, sensitivity, and energy, which daily influences the artists’ relationships and what they do here.

Rhizome is a map of inter-human entanglements in generational, environmental, and non-human dimensions, shaped by the space of the buildings, nature, and the memory of what was. At the exhibition, we will present photography, ceramic objects, installations, and painting.

For the exhibition Kłącze (Rhizome), a set of double portraits was created, mutually painted by Marta Szulc and Łukasz Dziedzic. Monika Waraxa painted: (Master of Manifestation) (Łukasz Dziedzic) and Teacher of Subtlety (Marta Szulc). Process of painting the portraits was accompanied by reciprocity and the experience of discovering new qualities and observations made by the painters. Six portraits were presented as a set of works at the exhibition.
