Title: Poppy
Date: 2023
Description: A single poppy flower fills the whole frame. Concentric oval lines appear on its petals, resembling the structure of a spiderweb. In the upper part of the composition, they develop into zigzags, and the lines form triangular shapes. Both patterns allude to the regenerative aspect of the goddess named the Regeneratrix by Marina Gimbutas. The regenerative aspect binds life and death; it is a link between what ends or dies and what can be reborn. In the face of difficult situations, which can be a symbolic death, one experiences a surge of energy, a rebirth of strength. At the intersection of death and life exists the Regeneratrix. Gimbutas claims: ”throughout prehistoric art, the vulva is a symbol of the source of life. It is the cosmic womb. Similar to a blossoming bud. From it develops all birth and vitality. The symbolism of regeneration, alongside the pubic triangle, the triangle and the double triangle, includes water signs, e.g., zigzags. This symbol appears from the early Paleolithic, through the Neolithic to the Bronze Age.” Marija Gimbutas.
